What would happen if I bring a little alchohol on my cruise with me and they find it?

ship luggage
geminicatlver asked:

I don’t want to bring a lot, maybe just a mouthwash container with some Jack Daniels in it. IIf they search my luggage and find it, will they just take it, or will they seriously not let me board the ship because of something like that?

We filled large mouthwash bottles with gin and nothing was said. I really don’t know what would happen if they found it.

May I know what brand of mouthwash do you use? Lol…..
Seriously, I think they’ll just confiscate it and return it to you at the end of your cruise. But why b.y.o.b. when there’s tons of them on board. Bring lots of money instead, and enjoy!

It depends. If they want to make an example of you, they could not let you aboard. I have never heard of anyone getting booted though. I am assuming that this is not an all-inclusive cruise. Though I am not advocating smuggling, I know of folks who have taken alcohol aboard successfully in water bottles. Maybe iced-tea bottles for J.D.?

    Are you of age?

    Where are you going?

    What is the cruise line?

If they do not allow it, they can do more than just not let you on the ship (at least if you are going to another country)

    Get high on life instead…

Depending on the Cruise line your allowed to brin 1 bottle of wine or champagne per cabin on board with you.

If they find it, they will confiscate it. At the most, they can refuse to let you board, with no refund. I have heard of this happening. If they find it after the cruise leaves, they can debark you at the next port, and it is up to you to find your own way home. I don’t think that this happens very often, but it is a possibility. With all of the problems they have had with people jumping overboard who had contraband alcohol, they are becoming more strict.

On Carnival they will take it and throw it away. However you are allowed to bring one bottle of champange or wine on board with you. If you are underage and try to sneak the alcohol on, they may do something worse, but if you are over 21, the worst thing that can happen is they will throw it away. I say it is worth the risk since drinks on the ship are expensive.

If you have to fly to get to the cruise, it’ll get taken from you at the airport. If not, it probably depends on the cruise line. Don’t worry if it does get taken, though- they’ll have plenty on the boat.

It depends on the cruise line. On Disney’s Mediterranean Cruise, we were constantly going ashore and bring back bottles of wine. Others brought 3-pack bottles of wine and 6-pack as well.

If you brought your own wine onboard and to Dinner, then you had to pay a small corkage fee. We just ended up eating a small dinner and then ordered room service (fruit/strawberries, cheeses, crackers, or steaks) and had a “snack” on our verandah during sunsets.

I cruise at least once a year with Carnival and I bring my own alcohol on board each time. Never have they said anything about it. I store my Jack Daniels in a Listerine bottle like you stated you were going to do. I also take Propel water bottles and fill them with Vodka and Rum as they are both clear liquors. I wash out a peroxide bottle really well and store my Baileys in there. I’ve taught these tricks to several people and no one has ever said anything.

On my last cruise to the USVI I bought 2 bottles of Baileys on shore and walked right past the check in with it. I kept the bottles next to my bed. I became REAL friendly with one of my cabin stewards and he never said anything. He even came in for a drink with us.

Have a blast on the cruise!

Why do this juvenile thing? You are going on a cruise (I presume you are over 21), so just pay for your drinks. They are not too expensive and if you can pay for a cruise, you can certainly pay for a few drinks.

Of course, if you do take the liquor and get caught, the ship has the right to refuse your ticket. You may get turned back and you will not get a refund of your ticket.
