What’s the best and/or most cost efficient way to move clothes and small items cross-country?

ship luggage
indomitable0l asked:

I’m moving cross-country in August to a furnished apartment. I am planning to fly myself into my new location. I am certain that all of the clothes and small items that I need to take with me will not fit into the allowable amount of luggage, but I don’t need anything as large (and expensive) as a POD or other similar shipping service because it’s really not anywhere near that much stuff. How can I get my things delivered to me in good condition, at a good price, and on my move-in date?

EDIT: I’m moving from north Alabama to Los Angeles.

I am moving from LA to Maryland for the summer. I always send about 3 boxes via Fed Ex or UPS. Maybe someone can mail them for you after you leave so you will be there to get them, unless you can send them to someone you know there. Passenger Planes also accept cargo–you could check on their weight rates and then you would pick it up at the airport.
