Hey all,
Why when you have a filgt, you need to have only 20 Kg in your suitcase, but they allow you to take 10 more by hand??

    Yes it’s strange :-)

But they have to draw a limit somewhere. They can’t have a limit that depends on what you’re going to shop before boarding. It’s simply impossible to enforce.

“Well, you Sir, you have checked 25 kg and your liquor bag is 10 kg so you will have to lose 5 kg”

So I’m afraid it’s a blunt tool for restricting passengers to bring too much on the plane.

The baggage handlers have to be able to lift your checked luggage. A 30 kg suitcase would be more difficult to handle.

Remember, that 10 KG bag has to fit in the overhead and/or under a seat, and if it’s in the overhead, SEVERAL 10 KG bags have to fit in the overhead. A loaded toolbox can be 60 pounds, and as large as a lunchbox, (only familiar with toolbox weights here in the US,) so this is something they have to watch for, because as I understand it, a suitcase’s weight is often propped against the door and therefor the latch of an overhead compartment, not simply resting on the bottom.

I wouldn’t want 10KG falling randomly into the aisle, let alone more than that.
